New York Fashion Week: Leather at Monique Lhuillier

Red, black and leather dominated the runway at Monique Lhuillier. The palette and prints were inspired by lava and volcanic stones, while hints of embellishment added feminine touches. Waist-cinching leather belts and patent Manolo Blahniks completed the looks.

CND’s Wanda Ruiz created a custom “Velvet Manicure” for the nails at Monique Lhuillier. Using CND Putty and Super Matte Top Coat, she produced a look that paired perfectly with the elegant gowns.

The hair—done by Odile Gilbert for Kerastase Paris—was inspired by Hollywood glamour. Using two different types of hairspray, she slicked the front of the hair, which then turned into long waves in the back. Similarly, the makeup—done by MAC—was kept simple with contoured cheeks, dewy skin and a pop of red on the lips in Lady Danger Red.

Runway Review: Prada Fall 2013

With an appearance from Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima, the Prada Fall 2013 collection was full of rich surprises. At Milan Fashion Week, Miuccia Prada was inspired by film noir, unveiling a beautifully romantic collection. Structured, off the shoulder dresses conveyed a glamorous, if harried, starlet, with demure hems past the knee balanced by cinched waists….

Runway Review: Fendi Fall 2013

Karl Lagerfeld does not deal in half measures, as was clearly apparent at Milan Fashion Week. The Fendi Fall 2013 collection that Lagerfeld designed with Silvia Venturini Fendi was absolutely over the top, but in the best way possible, with an overabundance of fur, fur and fur. From the models’ colorful faux-hawks to jackets, bags…

Runway Review: Gucci Fall 2013

At Gucci Fall 2013, we saw an amped-up, uber-feminine take on the futuristic military look we saw at Michael Kors. Frida Giannini revealed a sharp, color-saturated collection in rich woven fabrics, luxurious animal skins and lustrous furs. Although there was a demure feel to certain pieces, a subversively sexy undertone pervaded throughout, such as the leather…

Runway Review: Alberta Ferretti Fall 2013

Alberta Ferretti unveiled a strong Fall 2013 collection for her eponymous line today at Milan Fashion Week. The elegant, elongated silhouettes that make the designer’s pieces a favorite everywhere from editorials to the red carpet got a splash of saturated color to bolster the classical black-and-whites. Highlights include a red mini with beautiful embroidery around the…

Runway Review: Burberry Prorsum Fall 2013

If there’s one show that stands at the top of everyone’s list during London Fashion Week, it’s undoubtedly Burberry.  The fashion powerhouse somehow managed to draw attention away from the imposing Queen’s Gate monument looming behind the red carpet, as all heads were turned to get a glimpse of the celebrity arrivals. Notable guests included…

Runway Review: Paul Smith Fall 2013

Despite his storied regal show space at The Tate Britain (not to be confused with the Tate Modern), Paul Smith showed a collection that transported guests to a color-blocked 70s disco mixed with 80s men’s tailor. Daytime looks brought together deep hues of oxblood and cerulean, while the reflective eveningwear printed with an architectural facade…
